Job Summary
The Finance Department of Nak’azdli Whut’en First Nation is seeking a Bookkeeper to support financial operations under the direction of the Finance Manager. The successful candidate will assist with a variety of accounting, clerical, and administrative tasks including data entry, document management, financial reconciliations, and supporting the overall financial administration of the organization.
This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, confidentiality, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with a wide range of accounting, paperwork, and filing functions as required.
- Provide support during the annual audit process.
- Print documents and distribute financial statements.
- Reconcile travel reimbursements.
- Assist with budget preparation and tracking.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Sort, classify, and organize financial documentation.
- Create and update records with new files and information.
- Store and maintain paperwork in designated filing systems.
- Enter financial data into accounting software and databases.
- Scan and upload documents into electronic storage systems.
- Provide backup support for payroll processing.
- Forward financial and administrative communications as needed.
- Maintain accurate and organized office records.
- Assist with improving and streamlining document filing processes.
- Assist with monthly bank reconciliations.
- Organize meetings and record meeting minutes.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Finance Manager.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma, with experience in bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Proficiency with computer applications such as Excel, Adagio, Outlook, and Word.
- Basic understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a busy environment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Must be able to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.
Working Conditions
- Ability to attend meetings and occasionally assist with presentations.
- Manual dexterity required for operating computers and office equipment.
- Extended periods of sitting and computer use.
Hours of Work
Regular office hours are from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm for 7 hours per day from Monday to Friday, up to 35 hours per week, and it is expected that all work will be completed within your regular working hours, however, you may be required from time to time to work outside your normal hours of work.
