Health Centre Programs
The Syaz Yaz (My Darling Little One) Program provides parental support for First Nation Families with infants or young children who live on reserve. We also provide Making the Connection Programs for parents and infants. Syaz Yaz works to build and develop a cultural strength in families. We connect parents and families with the appropriate community resources, promote healthy babies, children, and families.
Our Children’s Oral Health Initiative promotes education and awareness of proper oral care for infants and children ages 0 to 7 years old. We provide fluoride applications and consult with the appropriate dental healthcare professionals.
Our Community Wellness Program is an individual client support program for referrals and assessments. We provide support and after-care services for those returning from treatment.

Community Wellness also offers the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP). The NNADAP is a Health Canada Program aimed at high levels of alcohol, drug and solvent abuse.
We promote community health and the sober lifestyle by focusing on the three key areas:
- Prevention activities aimed at preventing serious alcohol and other drug abuse problems
- Intervention activities aimed at dealing with existing abuse problems at the earliest possible stage
- After-care activities aimed at preventing alcohol and drug abuse problems from reoccurring

The Community Health Program focuses on the Community’s Health. We provide immunization and vaccination for the Nak’azdli Community according to the BC DC immunization schedule. We also have health promotion and prevention programs provided to Nak’al Bun Elementary School for the following:
- Hand-washing promotion
- Personal health and wellness promotion
- Sexual Education
- Tuberculosis screening
Weekly clinics are held at the Health Centre by the Community Health Nurses to assess infant and child growth and development.
The Harm Reduction Program is aimed to keep people safe and minimize death, disease, and injury from high risk behaviour. Harm reduction involves a range of support services and strategies that enhance the knowledge, skills, resources, and support for individuals, families, and communities to be safer and healthier.
Our Home Care Nurse will perform client assessments and referrals as need by appointment. We also handle case management of clients who access home care services and foot care services for clients with assessed foot care needs

Our Home Care Workers support clients who need assistance with household duties such as cleaning and cooking. We also provide a Breakfast Program, which brings our clients in the community a meal on Fridays every week.

The Canadian prenatal nutrition program is a community-based program delivered through the Public Health Agency of Canada. It promotes public health and provides support to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women, new mothers and babies. The CPNP is geared towards all pregnant women and new mothers and their babies (up to 6 months old) within the community who may be at risk for poor health and nutrition or just want a place to visit.
We promote healthy weight gain during pregnancy and the addition of folic acid and prenatal supplements. Labour support is available to those who may want the service.
Prenatal Classes
We provide prenatal classes that focus on eating well for you and your growing infant. The Health Centre can assist you when your dealing with:
- Discomforts of pregnancy
- Relaxation
- Stress management
- Families
- Relationships
- The birth experience
- Postpartum issues
Breastfeeding and Infant Nutrition
We support and promote breastfeeding as the way to provide optimal nutritional gain for your baby’s physical and emotional growth. Our Infant Nutrition Information includes information about how and when to introduce new foods into your infant’s diet.
Brighter Futures
The Health Centre provides medicine picking when in season, family activities and dances, community events that promote health, soup and bannock luncheons and an Elder’s Tea.

Patient travel services are available to assist with travel arrangements to and from medical appointments outside of the community. This service is also available to Nak’azdli off-reserve members. We require your travel information to be available two weeks prior to appointment.
