Apply for a free virtual Graphic Recording training program, to join a small cohort of Indigenous participants from across the country with a focus on species at risk graphic recording.
Graphic recorders listen, synthesize, and draw conversations in real time during meetings and events. These drawings help to make sense of what’s being said, and help people feel heard. Graphic recording increases community engagement, creative thinking, and collaboration. It’s useful – and fun!
This training is being offered by The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) and is funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada – Canadian Wildlife Service (ECCC-CWS), who have partnered on a national project: the Species at Risk Consultation, Cooperation and Accommodation (SARA-CCA) project. The SARA-CCA project is offering the training to support its work on species at risk. You might have seen graphic recording at one of our species-specific sessions too.
The program will be delivered by Drawing Change, who have trained hundreds of new learners to be graphic recorders – from Inuvik to Nepal. The course will cover a variety of topics and include guest speaker Indigenous Graphic Recorders who previously took the training and are now doing Graphic Recording on a regular basis.
The training will take place over five Saturday sessions: October 11, October 25, November 1, November 15, and December 6, 2025. These five Saturday sessions will take place over a 3.5 hour Zoom session as follows (please note your time zone!): 9:00 am PT to 12:30 pm PT, 10:00 am MT/CST to 1:30 MT/CST, 11:00 am CDT to 2:30 pm CDT, and 12:00 pm ET to 3:30 ET. Applicants must be able to commit to all five sessions.
Trainees will have opportunities to practice their new skills at species-specific workshops offered through the SARA-CCA project. Once training is complete there will be an opportunity for four paid internships to do actual graphic recording with Drawing Change, CIER and ECCC-CWS.
